Let’s go for a Drive

In the first of our posts on some of the great forgotten 80′s songs we remember Driving Away From Home (Jim’s Tune)by It’s Immaterial which reached Number 18 in 1986. Formed in 1980 by 3 former members of Yachts they recorded a total of 4 sessions for the late great John Peel on BBC Radio 1.

The driving force of the Band were John Campbell and Jarvis Whitehead and by 1984 the Band was reduced to a duo. While listening to this track, one morning after the usual commute ,I felt like sticking up two fingers to the problems in The World and literally driving off. There is a innocence and simplicity about the lyrics. I espcially like the “You can get anything there” description of a shop.

There is an unreleased album by The Band titled House For Sale which has not seen the light of day as it has been described as “too dark.”

Let us know about your favourite Hits of the 80′s that you think have been neglected.
