The Decade when anyone could of had a Top 20 Hit

  • Sharebar

We think that the following  list proves anyone could have had a Hit in the 1980s (reason number 1 why it was so much fun):

1. Alexei Sayle – Ullo John Got a New Motor  ( 1984, Number 15) Any song with ” I keep Tropical Fish in my underpants” gets my vote.

2. Spitting Image – The Chicken Song (1986, Number 1) Huge hit from the cast of one of the most popular T.V. shows of the 80s.

3. The Commentators – N N Nineteen Not Out (1985, Number 13) Rory Bremner has a pop at The England Cricket Team, times don’t change.

4. Nick Berry – Every Loser Wins (1986, Number 1) Should have stuck to pulling Pints at The Queen Vic.

5. Glenn and Chris – Diamond Lights (1987, Number 12) Surely the time would have been better spent on penalty taking practice!!

6. Steffan Dennis – Don’t it make you Feel Good ( 1989, Number 16) Not quite a successful as some of the Neighbours cast.

7. BRAT – Chalk Dust The Umpire Strikes Back (1982, Number 19) John McEnroe’s tantrums get the treatment.

8. M.C. Miker and DeeJay Sven – Holiday Rap (1986, Number 6) Ring Rang Dong for a Holiday…whatever!!!

9. Jimmy Nail – Love Don’t Live Here Anymore (1985, Number 3) I’m sure Rose Royce were well chuffed with this cover..waye eye man!!!

10. Anita Dobson – Anyone can fall in Love (1986, Number 4) Words added to The Eastenders theme tune, who thought of that little gem?

Let us know who would have made your list…

Well I can only think of one that you havnt named at the moment and that would be
Russ Abbott – What an Atmosphere – reached no.7 in the Uk charts in 1984, and stayed in the charts for 13 weeks.

Ok, and who remembers this one.
Keith Michell – Captain Beaky and his Band – reached no.5 in the charts in 1980.
Think it’s got something to do with wind in the willows, as he’s singing about artful owl and reckless rat.

how on earth could you miss that errrmmm…. ‘classic’ “Shadda You Face” by that misunderstood genius Joe Dolce (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFacWGBJ_cs) or indeed Renee and Renato (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfpgE1EoOjs)?

How dare you even mention that name on this site…..and to call it a classic is an insult to all that was good about the 80′s…..hearing that monstrosity on an episode of Benidorm would just finish us off!!!!

  5. clarage

I agree with The Hog on this one…..

I agree with The Hog, and Clarage as well, the best place for that song is the bin.
