Back in the 80s there were loads of places in town, where you able to purchase records, whether it be a single, or an LP. There were 2 shops down our High Street, one called "Chris's" which was on one side of the road, and the other one, which i can"t remember the name of was on the other side, but was a pretty big shop. Then there was "OK" Records which was in Windmill street, that i frequented every saturday afternoon, as well as every day after school had finished. I remember they had orange bags, with the word "OK" written in black on them, i do believe there was a shop in Dartford as well. The other places in town which sold records were Woolworths, and up on the 3rd floor of Tesco's, and then there was the outside market on a Saturday, which also bought your old unwanted records from you. One of my friends also worked up in Dartford at "Challenger & Hicks", which I do believe was one of the shops which the Gallop chart would get their record sales from, for the Top 40 .
I know things have changed and its mainly all downloads now, but the majority of places to buy music have disappeared, the only places we seem to have now is our local Asda store, the odd few CDs in WH Smiths, or HMV at Bluewater. Its such a shame, as them records shops hold such good memories.
