Well went to see Queen in concert last night and have to say that I came away having had a great time.
Brian May and Roger Taylor are the only 2 members left as Mr Deacon has
retired but they put on a cracking show last night. American Idol
(urrrgh I feel dirty even typing that phrase!!) finalist Adam Lambert
has taken over the reigns from flamboyant Freddie (who appears on video
for a couple of numbers) and, if anything, makes our Mr Bulsara seem
quite butch in comparison.
The evening is a veritable smorgesboard of hits and dearly remembered
tracks starting off with 'Flash' even before the curtain is raised. For
those of you who've seen AL on you-tube and wondered if he really can
take over the vocals be in no doubt he really is good and belts
out hit after hit. RT takes on some of the warbling duties (notably on
'Under Pressure' where he is David Bowie to AL's Freddie). 'Fat
Bottomed' girls cycle through and BM sings a few with, at one point, a
video Freddie duet. For me the highlight was BoRap AL sings part then
'introduces' Freddie to sing a fair chunk of it with BM really cutting
lose on the guitar these guys know how to rock.
Minus points? 25 minutes late starting
Plus points? Everything else, great lighting, musicianship and vocals
(was also a nice touch to see RT's son playing drums with the old man)
