My taste in music was pretty much influenced by my elder brother (whoms 9 years older than me) , also my cousin had some brilliant records that he taped for me too in the early 80s.  My brother had me listening to music during the early 70s, David Bowie, Kinks, Elton John , Supertramp, and Ian Dury to name but a few, and then in the early 80s my brother got me into Blondie and The Police, and i remember he had a real big thing about Shakatak, and when ever i went round his, there would be one of their LPs playing.

Be interesting to hear how other people came to like various types of music.

I definately got my Love of Music from my Mum and Dad, I remeber that Sundays were a day when the TV was off and the vinyl was spun, The Drifters were their favourite group so there was plenty of that…Burt Bacharach, James Last and loads of Motown. Like my Dad I don't mind instrumental tracks. His best was an album with the Great Western Film Themes…….

As I got older, and able to buy my own singles, New Wave, SKA and Punk were to the fore…XTC, Blondie, Roxy Music, SPARKS, X-Ray Spex, The Specials, Bad Manners Ian Dury and of course my beloved Level 42 settled the mix with some Jazz Funk…

I really only got back into the 80's when I discovered a shop selling all the old vinyl….I've never looked back.

Dont think i"ve ever really left the 80s. My mum had Barbara Striesand, Dionne Warwick and Barry Manilow, which i made her play constantly, but my brother bought me alot of my albums to begin with, Blondies "Eat to the Beat" was a birthday pressie, and one of my oldest school friends bought me my very first 12" record Culture Clubs "Do You want to Hurt me" for my birthday too. My dad has still got the old music centre up in his loft, and i am hoping to get it down one day, and show my children how great it was to listen to the crackle at the start of a record.
