Does He move in Mysterious Ways?
Born on 10th May 1960, Paul David Hewson grew up in the Northside Dublin suburb of Glasnevin with his brother Norman Robert Hewson. Bono attended the local Primary Glasnevin National School and then Mount Temple Comprehensive.
Paul was given the name Bono by his friend Gavin Friday. Initially Bono Vox was the full nickname which in Latin means “good voice” Bono didn’t like this at first but on hearing the translation accepted it. This was shortened to Bono in the late 70s.
On 25th September 1976 Bono, David Evans (The Edge), Dik Evans and Adam Clayton anwered the call from a fellow student , (Larry Mullen Jnr) posted on a bulletin board, to form a rock band. Known firstly as Feedback then The Hype finally settleing for U2.
Bono writes the lyrics for nearly all U2 songs. He was a rebel, this can be seen in War, The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum. Bono started out playing guitar, but couldn’t, and was placed into singing duties when The Edges playing improved. The Bands 80s single successes include Desire, With or Without You, Where the Street’s have no Name and New Year’s Day.
Bono is one of The World’s most famous politically effective performers and is clearly a clever businessman, owning 1.5% of Facebook. That’s about £500,000,000
All at 80sLegends wish Bono a Happy 51st Birthday on 10th May.
