56 Years Young and still a Live Wire
Angus McKinnon Young, the youngest of 8 children, was born on 31st March 1955 in Glasgow Scotland. In 1963 Angus moved, with his parents, to Sydney Australia. He started playing on banjos which he had restrung to 6 strings. Commenting on his first Gibson SG, ” I played until it got wood rot because so much sweat and water got into it. The whole neck warped. I bought it second hand, it was about a 67.”
Young is a private man and has homes at Kangaroo Point Sydney and Aalten in The Netherlands.
His gimmick is to wear school uniform on stage, while performing he uses the duck walk made famous by Chuck Berry. The “spasm” ,which is usually performed during the extended guitar solo for Let There Be Rock, involves Angus laying down, kicking, shaking and moving around in circles. This started when, on playing a small gig in Australia, he accidently tripped and covered up the mistake by performing the spasm to make it look like part of the act. It has become a trademark of his antics ever since.
80s Legends wishes AC/DC’s lead guitarist Angus Young a Very Happy Birthday. A true Rock Guitar Legend.
