Did anyone watch the documentry on BBc1 Friday night about the late Sir Jimmy Savilles life etc, it was very interesting going back to when he worked down the mines, and how he started out as a DJ in little clubs, and how he was the very first presenter of Top of the Pops etc, Jim'll Fix It, and all the charity work he did as well.

What an absolute Legend, that was a big part of the 80s.

wow soooooo many choices! Aliens was awesome at the time - though watching it now it does seem to be quite slow paced (ditto The Thing). Still got a soft spot for both Star Wars & Treknot to mention Back to the Future but for my money it's gotta be Terminator (T:2 was even better but the next decade).

That being said look at the choices - films I'd totally forgotten about

Bladerunner (1982) without a doubt was the best 80s sci-fi movie for me by a mile. With Ford at his best as the Raymond Chandler-esque detective Dekkard and Sean Young looking sexy as hell as his glamorous 'moll', it was another early winner for Ridley Scott! Based on a Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (a big fave author of mine back then), for me it foretold a world not dis-similar to today, dirty, falling apart, over-populated and over-reliant on technology. And don't forget the mesmerising Vangelis sound-track which I still play today sometimes and survives the test of time in my view. If you've time, catch the Director's cut minus the Sam Spade-ish Harrison Ford voice-over; worth two hours of your time, for sure!

I think I have to agree here, I can still remember going to the pictures to see Aliens, i hadnt seen Alien, so didnt know what to expect really, it had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Although i can imagine that this is very debateable as there was such a good mix of other sci-fi films in the 80s, and a few that i think could come as a very close 2nd to Aliens, Such as Predator 1987, Terminator 1984, The Fly 1986, ET 1982, The Thing 1980, Blade Runner 1982, and Star Wars Return of the Jedi. There are quite a few others too, it would be interesting to see what other people think.
